Karan Johar is on cloud nine these days, as his latest production ‘Homebound’ has made a mark on the global stage, and the filmmaker couldn’t hide his excitement as he shared the news with fans.
The film, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, recently received huge appreciation at the 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The movie was announced as the Second Runner Up at the 2025 International People’s Choice Award category at TIFF.
Karan celebrated the moment with an emotional post on Instagram, where he also shared the official poster of the film featuring its lead cast: Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor.
Calling the recognition “surreal,” Karan wrote that it felt extra special because the award came from the audience itself. “Always more special when it’s the people’s choice. ‘Homebound’ is a story we are all so proud of, and to see it loved and accepted across the globe, beyond language and barriers, is magical,” he wrote.
He also expressed his gratitude to TIFF for giving the team such a big platform.
Karan went on to thank Neeraj Ghaywan for letting Dharma Productions be a part of the project. “Congratulations to the entire team. This is only the beginning. Thank you, Neeraj, for allowing us to be part of your labour of love,” he added.
The film tells the journey of two childhood friends from a small village in North India. Their dream is simple yet ambitious: to become police officers. They believe the job will finally bring them the respect and dignity they have always been denied.
But as they get closer to achieving their dream, pressures from society and personal struggles begin to test their bond. The film highlights friendship, ambition, and the price one sometimes pays for chasing recognition.
While ‘Homebound’ shines at the international stage, Karan already has another big film lined up for audiences back home. His next production, ‘Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’, starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, is all ready to hit theatres earlier than planned.
